Sea View House

This home is an artists retreat; ample glazing to enjoy the ever-changing views, and plenty of wall space to display beautiful art pieces. The home sits happily on its knoll, with unobstructed views of the ocean. Clad in narrow vertical cedar shiplap and horizontal Stria board, the combination is light in colour palatte matching its natural surroundings.

What was the brief?

To design a home simple in form & streamlined in plan.  To allow for the house to feel comfortable whether it is a full household including the grandkids or just the owner at home.

How was the house planned for this sloped property?

Access was carefully designed to come up and around to the rear of the property so that the living areas get the best of the views and outdoor access. Retaining walls were carefully positioned to provide lawn areas for childs play while including a lot of the natural rocky outcrops to feature in the landscaped areas.

How does landscaping work for this house?

It was important to have some flat lawn on the property close to the living areas. This is for the grand kids to play and for their dog to roam close to the house. The inclusion of structured planter boxes just below deck level, will see the planting grow up higher than deck level, and blend the connection to deck to lawn, thus negating the legal need for balustrades. This allows a full unobstructed view.
